Gemäldegalerie (Gallery for paintings)

Amanda and I decided we needed to visit some museums and do some touristy things.  So we looked up directions to Museum Island (we wanted to see the Altes Museum), so we hopped on the bus followed the directions we looked up, and like any trip we didn't end up where we wanted to!!!!!!  This time we got lost in a good way so it was okay :).  We ended up getting off at the correct bus stop, but didn't know where to walk, so we wandered around a bit and stumbled into the Kulturforum and saw the Gemäldegalerie and the temporary exhibit on Dodo (A life in pictures) and that was really interesting!

Social Science Research Center Berlin - We couldn't go inside but this screen outside was really cool and you could see the history of the building and the architect and then had information about the research they do.

Cool art work
Interesting architecture, the windows were curved with the building

Colored piping that either transports thermal energy to heat houses, or for water drainage??  Not really sure but they are kind of cool and different colors in different areas.

Permanent exhibition of German resistance against National Socialism

Sweet staircase inside the resistance building (we didn't look around inside, just saw the courtyard outdoors with the statue and they had a timeline of photos outside telling the story)

While wandering down the street we found a map of the museums in the area.  They have very functional way-finding systems in Berlin (especially with the public transportation, it is very easy to find places and follow signage... and things like this map showing where different museums are around the area! Very helpful

Also all of the address numbers on every building are labeled clearly and all uniform which makes it easy to locate places.
Making our way to the museums!
 Music Hall
We made it!!!!!

And found the design museum........... that is permanently closed until 2014!!!! BUMMER!

Walking around on the slanted rooftops to get from one museum to the other!

The sky looked REALLY scary and cool when we came out of the museum

 Pretty church

Amanda looking at a map :)

 Random unmarked statue

Me and Amanda on the bus!
 Huge flowers

We saw this as we were riding home on the bus and decided to get out, it was really cool.  The front of it appeared to be the exterior and the other side looked like the interior of the structure.  I am not still not really sure what it is or the name of it, but I believe it is in commemoration of deportations.

Back of the structure that appears to have been the interior
